Eloise Dempsey

BLACKSBURG - Eloise Dempsey, 82, of 102 E. Lime St., died Friday, Aug. 11, 2006, at Magnolias of Gaffney.

Born in Washington, D.C., she was a daughter of the late Jacob P. and Callie Williams Dempsey. She was a graduate of Winthrop College and the University of Tennessee. She retired from the Cherokee County School System, teaching in Blacksburg. During her teaching career she also taught in Tennessee, Florida and Germany.

She was a member of St. John's United Methodist Church. Surviving are two nephews, Robert C. Moorhead and Richard D. Moorhead, bothof Blacksburg; six grand-nieces and grand-nephews; and eight great-great-nieces and great great nephews. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her sister, Margaret D. Moorhead, and her niece, Carol Moorhead Wilkins.

Graveside services were held Saturday at 11 a.m. at Frederick Memorial Gardens, conducted by the Rev. Anne Parrot. In lieu of flowers, Miss Dempsey may be remembered with donations to St. John's United Methodist Church, 105 S. Rutherford St., Blacksburg, S.C. 29702; Hospice Care of S.C., 1612 N. Limestone St., Gaffney, S.C. 29340; or to Meals on Wheels, P.O. Box 1886, Gaffney, S.C. 29342.
